A Season In Hell #10: Sloppy Drunk
July 08, 2007 04:11 AM PDT
A Season In Hell #10: Sloppy Drunk Last week I charged you all with the responsibility of naming my car. I also asked that you post the suggestions on my podcast site. Well, thanks to the six of you who follow directions; you must be a manager, or something close to that. For the rest of you ditch diggers out there, the world needs you too. As a matter of fact, it was two of you in particular that came up with the name I ended up choosing for my 1978 Cadillac Fleetwood. I need your contact info, so I can send you a mix CD, or mixed nuts. I can’t decide right now. Considering you can’t follow directions, you may not notice anyway. I will reveal the name of my car at the end of this podcast. So, tune in, and join the throngs that are in with the out crowd. I had a great Fourth of July. I spent it as I always do, at Dolores Park in SF, watching the Mime Troupe. No, I don’t enjoy watching people trying to escape from imaginary boxes; unless it’s Mime Jerry. You have seen Shakes The Clown, Haven’t you? Anyway, check out the website for this great political satire group. http://sfmt.org And look for them performing for free in the SF Bay Area all summer long. Last Thursday, July 5th, I was honored to be on a panel to discuss online radio and podcasting. My friend Melinda “Lilycat” Adams, , hosted the workshop at Modern Times Bookstore in SF. It went for two hours, and featured, besides myself, the following folks: - Danny Plotnick - Nest of Vipers -
- DJ Monkey of Pirate Cat Radio -
- John Miller - FCC Free Radio -
Take a look at their websites and listen to their shows. I’m a big fan of Pirate Cat Radio, which you can hear online, and on the radio in SF and LA. Set List: Hellhound On My Trail: Robert Johnson http://www.deltahaze.com/johnson/
Eric’s Trip (Home Demo): Sonic Youth http://sonicyouth.com/
You’re Gonna Miss Me: Thirteenth Floor Elevators http://www.rokyerickson.net/
Serenade For A Cuckoo: Rhasaan Roland Kirk
Drunken Hearted Boy: The Allman Brothers Band w/Elvin Bishop

About Johnhttp://www.myspace.com/mrjohnhell Welcome to A Season In Hell. My tastes run the gamut of every genre, though I tend not to listen to anything considered to be commercial. Well, no boy bands anyway. You won't find anything in the top 100 on my site, unless it's from 1972. My tastes seem to change from week to week. I have an extensive CD and vinyl collection (over 15,000 and growing). I've beeen digitizing my LPs for the last few years, so you should hear some rarities from time to time. Each show will showcase different genres. Everything from funk to punk to junk. I enjoy Jazz from the pre-bop age, to avant-garde artists like John Zorn. I also am a long standing Dead-Head, so you'll hear a few choice live cuts from time to time. I do trade my live music, which you can find here: http://db.etree.org/johnhell Send me an email, and let me know if you are interested in a trade. Other artists on my plate these days include Japanese ambiant/noise Boris, Southern Belle Cat Power, classic Minutemen, always rockin' Cheap Trick, the songwriting prowess of Midlake, Dylan, Bikini Kill, Damon & Naomi, Jeff Buckley, Polkacide, Tony Bennett, Sugar Hill Gang, James Brown; you name it, I probably have something by them. Requests and suggestions are always welcome. As a former DJ at KFJC (http://www.kfjc.org) I was schooled in the finer art of what is truly considered to be alternative to the mainstream. My goal is to upload at least once a week. Like any fine art, it'll take me a few weeks to get in the groove, but once I do, I'm hoping this show will taste like a fine wine: full bodied, with a lasting impression, that you'll go back to time and again. Enjoy Fans of this Show
