A Season In Hell #11: Why Didn’t Anyone Tell Me My Mic Sucked?
July 17, 2007 11:00 PM PDT
A Season In Hell 11: Problematic Sometime when I put a show together, it just comes together so fast, and in the weirdest ways. I had no clue what I wanted to play as recently as a day and a half ago. I had a few tunes set up, but all of a sudden I watched Willy Wonka (the original), and I love the scene in the boat so much. I figured you’d like to hear it. When I was at KFJC I played two movies on the air: man With the Golden Arm, and Double Indemnity. It sounded amazing. It was followed up with 2001, A Space Odyssey, by the next DJ. Movies on the air are quite remarkable to listen to. This week I’m off to an education conference in D.C. I’ve never been there before, so I’m genuinely excited to be going to thee capital. Perhaps I can bust into the White House and steal something, like the constitution, and show people how it’s been trampled on. I do plan on seeing the New York Dolls at the legendary 9:30 Club though. Enjoy the show. Thanks for tuning in. This may be my favorite show that I’ve done so far. Set List: The Wondrous Boat Ride: Sung By Gene Wilder, Willy Wonka Soundtrack
Tekufa: Electric Masada, 06-27-07
Say Leroy (The Creature From The Black Lagoon Is Your Father): Jimmy Castor Bunch
D Boon Interview: D Boon, Our Band Could Be Your Life
Buy local, and when you can’t do that, buy regional. And when you can’t do that, buy national. And when you can’t do that, buy international. And if for some ungodly reason you can’t do that, then, and only then buy corporate. Support Fair trade brands. Post on the comments page please, and tell your friends about the show. Thanks. |

About Johnhttp://www.myspace.com/mrjohnhell Welcome to A Season In Hell. My tastes run the gamut of every genre, though I tend not to listen to anything considered to be commercial. Well, no boy bands anyway. You won't find anything in the top 100 on my site, unless it's from 1972. My tastes seem to change from week to week. I have an extensive CD and vinyl collection (over 15,000 and growing). I've beeen digitizing my LPs for the last few years, so you should hear some rarities from time to time. Each show will showcase different genres. Everything from funk to punk to junk. I enjoy Jazz from the pre-bop age, to avant-garde artists like John Zorn. I also am a long standing Dead-Head, so you'll hear a few choice live cuts from time to time. I do trade my live music, which you can find here: http://db.etree.org/johnhell Send me an email, and let me know if you are interested in a trade. Other artists on my plate these days include Japanese ambiant/noise Boris, Southern Belle Cat Power, classic Minutemen, always rockin' Cheap Trick, the songwriting prowess of Midlake, Dylan, Bikini Kill, Damon & Naomi, Jeff Buckley, Polkacide, Tony Bennett, Sugar Hill Gang, James Brown; you name it, I probably have something by them. Requests and suggestions are always welcome. As a former DJ at KFJC (http://www.kfjc.org) I was schooled in the finer art of what is truly considered to be alternative to the mainstream. My goal is to upload at least once a week. Like any fine art, it'll take me a few weeks to get in the groove, but once I do, I'm hoping this show will taste like a fine wine: full bodied, with a lasting impression, that you'll go back to time and again.
